Arkansas Travelers News Release
LITTLE ROCK - Joey Gallo and Drew Robinson hit late leadoff home runs while Edwar Cabrera threw eight dominating innings to lead the Frisco RoughRiders to a 2-0 victory over the Arkansas Travelers on Thursday at Dickey-Stephens Park. Gallo hit his professional baseball best 30th homer to begin the eighth inning to break a 0-0 tie.
Cabrera (4-6) finished his eight innings on 96 pitches and struck out seven batters against one walk. He had only four three-ball counts and retired the last ten batters faced. Only one Travs base runner advanced to second base for the night. His victory snapped a three-start losing streak.
Travs lefty Kramer Sneed also pitched well in a no-decision holding Frisco to no runs in five innings. Sneed walked four but also set a season high with eight strikeouts while giving up just three base hits.
The lone chance the Travs got with a runner in scoring position came after back-to-back singles by Kaleb Cowart and Eric Stamets with two outs in the fifth inning. Jimmy Swift popped out to left field to end the threat and began Cabrera's string of ten outs.
After Sneed retired the RoughRiders in order in the fifth inning, right hander R.J. Alvarez worked the sixth getting two strikeouts and a groundout.
David Carpenter left two runners in the seventh inning and returned for the eighth with a string of 17.2 innings without allowing a run. However Gallo smashed his first pitch past the right-center wall to put Frisco up 1-0. Trever Adams followed with a double and took third base when Carpenter allowed Odubel Herrera's bunt to roll past him for a single. Adams was thrown out at home by Stamets on a fielder's choice. Then Jairo Diaz relieved and allowed a laser hit by Edwin Garcia which Brian Hernandez caught at first base and threw to second to double Herrera off.
Diaz returned for the ninth inning and got ahead of Robinson 0-2 before allowing a home run (7) that cleared the right-field wall for a 2-0 Frisco lead.
Hernandez managed a two-out single against Randy Henry, but the right hander induced Mike Bianucci into a groundout to earn his first save.
The loss was the Travs' tenth via shutout at home and their Texas League-high 13th shutout loss.
Time of game was 2:41 and the paid attendance was 4,388.
