Frisco Ends Travs' Win Streak at Five

LITTLE ROCK - The Frisco RoughRiders grabbed a first-inning lead and never let go during a 5-1 victory over the Arkansas Travelers on Wednesday night at Dickey-Stephens Park. Four pitchers combined to hold the Travs to four base hits and snapped their season-best winning streak at five games.
Frisco jumped on Orangel Arenas in the first inning and loaded the bases with no outs on two singles and a hit batter. Trever Adams stayed out of a double play beating a fielder's choice for an RBI scoring Ryan Strausborger. Then Arenas bounced a pitch past Jett Bandy bringing home Patrick Cantwell.
The Travs also loaded the bases on Frisco's starter, Alex Gonzalez, in the first inning with two walks and a single by Alex Yarbrough. Zach Borenstein, who returned to the Travelers from Salt Lake, drove in Maikol Gonzales with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Jake Skole started Frisco's second inning with a single then advanced to second base when Guilder Rodriguez hit a grounder that deflected off first baseman Brian Hernandez's glove that Yarbrough recovered and shuffled it back to Hernandez for the first out. Strausborger then hit a hit hop that Kaleb Cowart leaped and brought down, but threw wide of first base for an error that sent Skole to third. Both runners scored when Cantwell roped a double to the left-field corner. Cantwell took third base when the cutoff throw from Eric Stamets bounced wildly past the plate. A groundout by Tomas Telis scored Cantwell for a 5-1 Frisco lead.
Although Arenas kept Frisco off the scoreboard for the next two innings, he still suffered his fourth straight losing decision. The Travs received outstanding work out of the bullpen with Buddy Boshers tossing two shutout innings before Danny Reynolds, Michael Brady and Carmine Giardina pitched one inning apiece.
In the fifth inning Frisco brought Kyle Lotzkar to the mound and he retired six in a row before allowing a single by Jett Bandy in the seventh. Lotzkar (1-2) earned the win with three scoreless innings.
The Travs had a chance in the eighth inning against Will Lamb, who loaded the bases one two walks and a single by Brian Hernandez. Bandy's drive to deep left-center was hauled in by Strausborger to end the threat.
Keone Kela pitched around two walks in the ninth inning to end the game.
Time of game was 3:18 and the paid attendance was 4,997.
The second of the three-game series is set for 7:10 p.m. on Thursday night. The Travs have Kramer Sneed (5-6, 5.12 ERA) on the mound to counter Frisco's Edwar Cabrera (3-6, 3.36).
