'Gades Play Three Preseason Games This Week

The Richmond Renegades opened training camp over the weekend. The ‘Gades play their three game preseason schedule in four days this week. The ‘Gades open the regular season October 11 at Trenton. The ‘Gades open at home October 18 vs. Charlotte.

Wednesday, October 2 vs. Roanoke 7:00 PM
GAME NOTES: First of home and home preseason series vs. the Express. Game will be played at SkateNation plus and is open to season ticket holders only on a first come first serve basis. ‘Gades were 0-1-1 vs. the Express in the preseason last year. Richmond was 4-5-1 vs. the Express last season.

Thursday, October 3 @ Roanoke 7:00 PM
GAME NOTES: ‘Gades and Express meet at the Ice Station. Clubs will clash 10 times in the regular season. ‘Gades lost here 6-3 in preseason play last year. First regular season meeting vs. the Express is November 15 in Richmond.

Saturday, October 5 @ Atlantic City 7:00 PM
GAME NOTES: First and only preseason meeting. ‘Gades beat the Bullies 2-1 in exhibition play last year. Clubs will meet eight times in the regular seasoon. Richmond was 5-2-1 vs. the Bullies last season. Lars Pettersen had 12 points vs. the Bullies last season.

‘GADES NOTES: Richmond was 1-1-1 in preseason play last season. The ‘Gades did not loose a preseason game from 1998 until last year. The ‘Gades have 17 players in camp, nine forwards, six defensemen, and two goalies. The ‘Gades have signed veteran defenseman Milt Mastad. He is due to report later in the week. Richmond received three players from Norfolk's camp over the weekend: Ian Turner, Scott Crawford, and Alex Matieroukine. 11 players who have signed with Richmond are still away at AHL camps. Rookie defenseman Kerry Ellis-Toddington suffered a minor injury at Vancouver's NHL camp. He is expected to report later in the week. Jamie Herrington opened this season at the New York Rangers camp. Former Renegades defenseman Darren Wetherill is in camp on a tryout basis. The ‘Gades have two Richmond products in camp: RW J.R. Jarelle and G Bobby Dillon. Both goalies (Dillon and Ryan Honick) have only emergency back-up experience as pros. Goalie Marc Magliarditi is expected to attend camp with Cleveland of the AHL before reporting to Richmond but he is still in the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim camp. Rookie goalie Dan Lombard is in camp with Portland and is expected to play in the Pirates preseason game Wednesday. Three members of last year's Richmond team have seen playing time in NHL preseason games. Rastislav Stana, Krys Barch, and Graham Mink all saw action with Washington last week.

The ‘Gades have only three returnees from last year's club in camp (Dan Vandermeer, Brian Goudie, and Lars Pettersen).
