Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies of the East Coast Hockey League are excited to announce its support for the Atlantic City Junior Boardwalk Bullies, a club team member of the New Jersey Youth Hockey League (NJYHL).

The Junior Bullies will wear replica jerseys matching those worn by the professional team in the area. The Junior Bullies will play its home games at Flyers SkateZone at Atlantic City, located at 501 N. Albany Ave.

Saturday, Oct. 5, the Junior Bullies Pee Wee and Bantams teams open their respective seasons. The Pee Wee team plays Cranford Hockey Club at Flyers SkateZone at 3:15 p.m., and the Bantam B team takes the SkateZone ice at 11:15 p.m. to faceoff against the Medford Wild. The Bantam A team will play its season opener on the road against the Red Bank Generals at the Red Bank Armory at 4:15 p.m.

The Junior Bullies Squirt team will play a non-league game against the Archbishop Ryan Raiders at SkateZone at 4:45 p.m. The Squirts open its official season Saturday, Oct. 12.

Each team plays a home and a road game every weekend from the week after Labor Day until early March; each playing approximately 45 games, including 22 – 24 league games. The NJYHL has 30 teams divided into five age groups; squirts are 9- 10 years old, Pee Wees are 11 – 12, and Bantams are 13 –14.

"Mark Litzie [General Manager of Flyers SkateZone at Atlantic City] created a travel program that consists mostly of returning players and coaches from the A.C. Storm," commented Chris Ferry, head coach of the Junior Bullies Bantam A team.

"It was disappointing for the players, coaches, and the community when the Storm ceased to exist, but SkateZone and the Boardwalk Bullies played significant roles in keeping travel hockey in this area.

"The Junior Bullies identify with the Boardwalk Bullies players and are fans of the pros here in Atlantic City. On a Friday or Saturday night, I would see most of the players whom I coach at a Bullies game at Boardwalk Hall."

Bullies forwards Stefan Rivard and Luke Curtin were an added presence at the rink this summer. Both spent time with the Junior Bullies players, teaching various techniques and practice drills.

The Boardwalk Bullies join the Reading Royals and Trenton Titans, as well as other ECHL teams that lend its team, name, logo, and benefaction to junior programs.

"The Bullies are honored to help continue the tradition of travel hockey in the Atlantic City area," remarked Boardwalk Bullies General Manager Matthew Loughran. "Today's junior players will comprise professional hockey teams in the future and it's important to keep hockey programs in areas where they already exist and to share this great sport as it spreads to other areas."
