Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - Yutaka Fukufuji stopped 20 shots for his first career shutout as the Bakersfield Condors beat the Fresno Falcons 2-0 in front of 4,148 fans at Centennial Garden on Monday night.
The Condors had jump in the opening frame and started out with a 15-1 shot advantage. They scored twice in the first period, with Vlad Serov tallying a power play goal for his 12th of the season. Connor James ripped home his 13th of the season, squeezing it through Fresno goalie Jamie Hodson from the right circle off the draw. Serov extended his point streak to nine games with the goal - a season- high for the Condors.
Neither team scored during the middle frame, although the best chance came at 11:24 when Condors rookie Brett Lutes was awarded a penalty shot. G Jamie Hodson stopped it for the Falcons, continuing the ECHL trend this season. Of the 18 penalty shots this season, only one was a goal - Dennis Shiryaev for the Condors back on November 6th - the first penalty shot in the league this season.
Fukufuji saw action in the third period but the defense tightened up. The Falcons managed just five third period shots, while Hodson stopped 12 shots in the period and 41 in the game for Fresno. It was the first shutout of the season for the Condors and Fukufuji picked up his 16th win.
