San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Gulls have now raised about $5,000 for the Asia Tsunami victims, the ECHL club announced on Tuesday. The Gulls' Boxer Shorts Auction provided the bulk of the donation climb from last week's number.

Special pairs of Gulls boxer shorts, courtesy of Coast-to-Coast Tax Service, were given away to the first 6,000 fans in attendance for the Saturday, Jan. 15 game against the Louisiana IceGators. For the auction, each Gulls player and coach autographed a pair of boxer shorts.

The auction officially closed Tuesday afternoon, with the highest bid at $80 for a pair of Max Birbraer autographed boxer shorts. Other high bids were $75 for Darren Clark, $70 for Trevor Koenig, $60 for Sean Murphy, $50 for Eddy Ferhi and $50 for Jonathon Shockey.

Gulls fans helped raise even more for the tsunami victims during last week's home games by contributing to the collection bins stationed on the Sports Arena's concourse.

As of Tuesday, Jan. 18, the amount raised was about $4,000

The 2005 Coors Light ECHL All-Star Game, which takes place Wednesday in Reading, Pa., will be televised live on Ch. 4 San Diego, starting at 4 p.m. (PST). After the All-Star break, the Gulls will embark on a seven-game eastern road trip, which starts Friday in Peoria, Ill. at 5:30 p.m. (PST). During the seven-game trek, San Diego will play five teams in 10 nights.
