Wednesday, Condors 3 @ STEELHEADS 1
Bakersfield jumped out to a 2-0 lead and eventually led 3-1 after 20 minutes of play. The goaltenders held their ground for the remaining 40 minutes and the Condors stretched their unbeaten streak to nine games (8-0-1). Randy Petruk picked up his 10th win of the season and Brett Lutes, Lars- Peder Nagel and Paul Rosebush all tallied in the victory.
Friday, STEELHEADS 5 vs. Condors 3
Idaho bounced back strong the next game, peppering the Condors with shots and jumping out to a 4-0 lead after the first period. Down 5-0 through two, the Condors lit the lamp three times in the third period to make it close, with two goals from Brett Lutes and one from Dennis Shiryaev, but it's as close as they could get. Randy Petruk suffered the loss, stopping 16 of 21 shots.
Saturday, Condors 4 @ STEELHEADS 2
Bakersfield once again trailed after the first frame in this rubber match of the three-game set. But the second period belonged to the Condors, who scored three times to recoup the lead. Yutaka Fukufuji turned aside 29 shots for the 4-2 victory, his 15th of the season. Vlad Serov extended his point streak to eight games with a goal and Brett Lutes also scored for the third straight game.
Monday, CONDORS 2 vs. Falcons 0; attn: 4,148
Yutaka Fukufuji recorded the first shutout of the season for the Condors as they ended Fresno's 10- game unbeaten streak with a 2-0 loss. Vlad Serov and Connor James both scored for Bakersfield in the win as they improved to 2-1-1 on the year against the Falcons.
Where we stand
The Bakersfield Condors lead the entire 28-team ECHL in wins (26), points (57) and win percentage (.695). Their 26-10-5 record give them a three- point lead over second-place Long Beach in the West Division standings.
What's up this week
The Condors are on home ice this Friday when they host the Long Beach Ice Dogs in a battle of top teams in the ECHL. Long Beach sits in second place in the West Division and overall with 25 wins and 54 points heading into the break. The first 2,000 fans will get a bobblehead doll of Condors rookie All-Star Connor James, courtesy of KGET-TV 17 and Carl's Jr.
After that, the road warriors head up to Anchorage for three games against the Aces starting next Wednesday. All Condors games, home and away, can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230, online at www.bakersfieldcondors.com and now available for viewing through B2 Networks on the official Condors website.
News from the Nest
· With 31 games still remaining this season, the Condors have passed their win total from last season (26) and their road win total (13).
· Vlad Serov has recorded a point nine straight games (5g-5a-10pts), a season high for Bakersfield.
· C Lars-Peder Nagel is third among rookies and tied for 15th in the ECHL with 37 points this season. He has 11 points in the last 10 games, as does rookie All-Star Connor James.
· G Yutaka Fukufuji is third in the ECHL with 16 wins and has won his last seven starts.
· James is also first among all ECHL rookies with three shorthanded goals and five shorthanded points.
· D Dylan Mills picked up his first points of the season last week, recording a goal and an assist on Saturday night. He began the season in Sweden, but the Duluth, MN native debuted with Bakersfield on Wednesday.
