Daytona Tortugas News Release
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Daytona Tortugas opened the 2026 season with a complete performance on both sides of the ball, knocking off the Jupiter Hammerheads, 4-2, Thursday night in front of a sold out crowd at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
Jake Brink and Nick Lodolo combined to lead a dominant pitching effort, while Jacob Friend and Bernard Moon provided the power at the plate.
The Rundown
Daytona wasted little time setting the tone behind its pitching staff.
Making a Major League rehab appearance, Nick Lodolo was sharp from the outset, striking out four over 2.2 hitless innings and keeping Jupiter off the scoreboard early.
The Tortugas broke through in the second inning when Jacob Friend launched a solo home run to right field to give Daytona a 1-0 lead.
Daytona added on in the third in unconventional fashion. After Ichiro Cano reached, a sequence of balks allowed him to advance all the way around to score, stretching the lead to 2-0.
The Tortugas continued to apply pressure in the fourth as Bernard Moon delivered a solo blast to center field, extending the advantage to 3-0.
Jupiter answered in the fifth with an RBI double, but Daytona responded immediately. Kyle Henley worked a leadoff walk and came around to score on an RBI single from Arnaldo Lantigua, pushing the lead back to three at 4-1.
The Hammerheads added a run in the eighth on a double play ball, but Daytona's defense limited the damage and prevented any late threat.
Out of the bullpen, Jake Brink took control of the game. Making his professional debut, the right-hander tossed five innings, allowing two runs on three hits while stranding multiple runners to earn the win.
Stat of the Game
3 - The Tortugas pitching staff limited Jupiter to just three hits across nine innings in the win.
