Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
DUNEDIN, FL - The Dunedin Blue Jays, in conjunction with the Toronto Blue Jays, have announced that right-hander Trey Yesavage will start Opening Day at TD Ballpark on Friday, April 3, 2026, on MLB rehab assignment. Yesavage was placed on Toronto's 15-day injured list to begin the 2026 season with a right shoulder impingement.
The Blue Jays 2024 first-round pick began his professional career with Class-A Dunedin in 2025 before a meteoric rise to the major leagues. He dominated in seven starts with Dunedin to open the 2025 season, going 3-0 with a 2.43 ERA and 55 strikeouts over 33.1 innings. The Blue Jays went undefeated in games he started.
He was promoted to High-A Vancouver on May 20 and made four starts before advancing to Double-A New Hampshire in June. In July, he represented the organization at the All-Star Futures Game. Just eight appearances later, Yesavage earned a promotion to Triple-A Buffalo in mid-August.
He made his Major League debut on September 15 against Tampa Bay, striking out nine batters over five innings of one-run ball to set a franchise record for strikeouts in a Blue Jays debut.
Yesavage finished the regular season 1-0 with a 3.21 ERA in three starts. He then played a pivotal role in Toronto's postseason run, going 3-1 with a 3.58 ERA across six appearances (five starts) while striking out 39 batters in 27.2 innings.
In his first postseason start, just his fourth career MLB start, Yesavage struck out 11 Yankees over 5.1 hitless innings, delivering one of the most dominant postseason debuts in MLB history. He followed that performance by striking out seven over 5.2 innings of two-run ball in a must-win ALCS Game 6 and was later named Toronto's Game 1 starter for the World Series. In an 11-4 victory, Yesavage tossed four innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out five. Five days later, he delivered another standout performance, striking out 12 Dodgers over seven innings of one-run ball.
Following a rainout on Thursday, April 2, Yesavage will now take the mound as Dunedin's Opening Day starter on Friday, opposing Pirates No. 3 prospect Seth Hernandez.
Friday's game will also feature postgame fireworks presented by Meade Dunedin Hospital. Tickets are available at DunedinBlueJays.com.
