Asheville Tourists News Release
Lakewood, NJ--Kyle Freeland made his Asheville Tourists debut on Tuesday night against the Lakewood BlueClaws. The Colorado Rockies first round draft pick from this past June debuted in style. Freeland worked five shutout frames, allowed just two hits and struck out six without walking a batter.
Yoel Mecias started for Lakewood and matched Freeland through the first four frames. However, in the top of the fifth the Tourists broke through. Ashley Graeter led off with a double to deep left-centerfield. Dillon Thomas was grazed by a pitch and Wilfredo Rodriguez bunted both runners up 90 feet. Emerson Jimenez made it 1-0 with an RBI groundout that scored Graeter and Raimel Tapia followed with a single into right plating Thomas.
Troy Neiman relieved Freeland and recorded four strikeouts in 1.2 innings pitched. He departed with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh but Trent Daniel struck out Larry Greene Jr. on three pitches to work out of the threat.
In the top of the eighth, Asheville broke the game open with five runs. After Tapia scored on an error to make it 3-0, Ryan McMahon blasted a two-run triple off the wall in right-centerfield.
Thomas singled in McMahon and he would later score on the BlueClaws second error of the inning.
Lakewood's lone run came in the bottom of the eighth, but the Tourists countered with another in the ninth. Jordan Patterson drove in Tapia with a sacrifice fly. Matt Carasiti worked a perfect bottom of the ninth with a pair of strikeouts to seal the win. Asheville's pitchers recorded 15 strikeouts in the game.
The Tourists finished off their seven game road trip with a 4-3 record and return to Asheville on Thursday night to host the West Virginia Power.
