Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
(Charleston, WV- August 5, 2014)- The West Virginia Power fell to the Hagerstown Suns 10-6 at Appalachian Power Park on Sunday evening. Hagerstown tied the game at two in the second before pulling away with six runs in the third.
The Power got on the board right away when Austin Meadows blasted a two-run home run in the first inning. The Suns responded with a pair in the second on an RBI base knock by David Masters.
Hagerstown, however, poured on six runs in the third. Drew Ward doubled in a run and Wilmer Difo smashed a two-run blast to highlight the big inning. The Suns tacked on two more in the fifth on RBI base knocks from Rafael Bautista and Narciso Mesa.
West Virginia fought back with a couple runs in the seventh with a Chris Diaz RBI single and a JaCoby Jones sacrifice fly followed by one more in the ninth, but that would be all for the West Virginia offense.
Dovydas Neverauskas (5-10) was charged with the loss while Lucas Giolito (8-2) earned the win and Sam Johns (2) tallied the save. Chris Diaz went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the loss.
West Virginia hosts the Hagerstown Suns on Wednesday, August 6, at Appalachian Power Park. Luis Heredia will take the hill against the Suns Wirkin Estevez. For tickets or more information, call 304-344-BATS or visit www.wvpower.com.
