Diaz Makes Dogs Heel to Earn Doubleheader Split

Savannah, Ga.- Miller Diaz tossed a complete game shutout in the nightcap of a doubleheader to lead the Gnats to a 1-0 win. The Charleston RiverDogs won the opener 6-2.

Diaz allowed just three hits, two walks and struck out five to improve to 6-1 with a 2.14 ERA. He did not allow a hit between the first inning and the seventh.

The Gnats (27-17/71-39) scored the game's only run in the bottom of the sixth inning. After two singles to start the frame, catcher Colton Plaia ground a single through the left side to bring home third baseman Nelfi Zapata with the eventual winning run.

The RiverDogs (23-21/56-58) scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning of game one against Savannah reliever Hunter Carnevale to snap a 2-2 tie. Designated hitter Tyler Wade put Charleston in front with an RBI double.

The Gnats had tied the game in the bottom of the six on a line drive homerun by DH Matt Oberste out to left.

The Gnats and 'Dogs play their second-straight doubleheader beginning Wednesday at 5:05 pm .

RHP Robert Whalen (6-0, 1.65) will take the ball for the Gnats in game one against LHP Chaz Hebert (1-3, 2.58). Gates to Historic Grayson Stadium open at 4:30 pm . The radio pregame on News/Talk 630 WBMQ, sandgnats.com and the TuneIn Radio App begins at 5 pm .

Wednesday's Pack the Park for Charity Night will support Salvation Army Savannah.

Prior to the game, WSAV and the Salvation Army will host the Holiday Hope Carnival with a Christmas in August Theme at 4 p.m. in the plaza at Historic Grayson Stadium.
