Freedom's Season Ends in 5-3 Loss

The Freedom's 2011 season ended in a 5-3 loss on Sunday in Normal, Ill. Florence finished the season 39-57 and did not make the Frontier League playoffs.

The CornBelters broke up a scoreless tie in the fourth inning. Daniel Cox hit an RBI double, Tyler McNeely hit a two-run single and Asif Shah added an RBI double. Another run scored on an error as the Belters pounded out five hits in the inning and took a 5-0 lead.

Florence rallied in the eighth. With two out and the bases loaded, Jeff Dunbar blooped a two-run single to right. Junior Arrojo also hit a flare to right that fell for an RBI double to cut the deficit to 5-3. Juan Valdes came on as a pinch-hitter with the tying run at second but struck out to end the inning.

Haas walked to start the ninth but nobody else reached as Marschall Schuler picked up his 12th save. Tyler Lavigne (7-9) limited the Freedom to three runs in 7 2/3 innings for the win.

Anthony Bello (3-8) gave up five runs, four earned in five innings for the loss. Jeff Frost, Mike Hanley and Chad Robinson each threw scoreless innings in relief for Florence.
