River City Ties Frontier League Record with 68th Win

River City Rascals News Release


Sauget, Ill - Before a record crowd of 8,189 at GCS Ballpark the River City Rascals got their Frontier League record tying 68th win against the Gateway Grizzlies winning by a score of 11-5. The Rascals would use a combination of power and defensive miscues by Gateway to score 11. Bobby Burk, Joash Brodin, and Chad Maddox all homered for the Rascals.

There was more scoring in the first inning alone then the previous night as the Grizzlies got to Rascals starter Preston Vancil for three runs when Joe Agreste blasted a shot over the left field wall. The Rascals got on the scoreboard in the top of the third when Bobby Burk led off the inning with a home run his 17th of the season and would plate another run when Doug Sanders would score on a double by Logan Parker. Vancil would settle down after the first inning going six innings and allowing 4 earned runs. Dustin Umberger and Zach Robertson would enter in relief of Vancil and would both pitch a scoreless inning.

River City would tie the game in the fifth inning when Joash Brodin scorched his 14th home run over the 16 foot high wall in center field. The Rascals would take the lead in the seventh inning after they took advantage of two Grizzlies' errors. Allowing Parker to reach base and was able to make it to second after an error by the shortstop on a fielder's choice on the ball that was put into play by Stephen Holdren. Jareck West would enter the game and knock in Parker with an rbi double. Holdren would eventually score on a sacrifice fly by Brodin. In the top of the eighth the Rascals would tack on some insurance runs rallying to score three addition runs.

In the top of the ninth Chad Maddox would crush a home run over the left field wall for an additional two runs. Derrick Miramontes would come into finish the game allowing a no doubt solo shot home run to right to Kent Gerst.

The Rascals move on to post season play and will take on the Southern Illinois Miners. Josh Lowey is scheduled to start for River City and David Harden will start for Southern Illinois. Game is set for September 7 with a start of 7:05 pm at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.

Notes:

-Gateway honored long time Grizzlie Charlie Lisk who played his final game with Gateway, removing him after one pitch in the top of the seventh.

- The crowd of 8,189 was a record at GCS Ballpark

- Stephen Holdren tied the Rascals season record for walks and came up one RBI short of tying the record.

- The playoffs teams are set West Division will be Southern Illinois Miners against River City Rascals. East Division will have the Joliet Slammers facing the Lake Erie Crushers.
