Crestwood, IL -- The Washington Wild Things (42-52), presented by Washington Financial, defeated the Windy City Thunderbolts 6-2 in game one of a double header Sunday night.

Game one was a tit-for-tat contest that took what was meant to be a seven inning game into 12 innings. Both teams scored a run in the first inning. Washington struck first when Tim Battle drove in Doug Thennis; in the bottom of the inning Windy City's Evan Sheppard drove in Nick Kuroczko to tie the game.

The scoreboard wad idle until the fifth inning when Luis Rivera scored on an Emilio Ontiveros sacrifice fly, giving Washington a one run edge. In the bottom of the sixth inning, however, Windy City answered when Mike Torres drove in Brandon Anderson.

Again the scoring ceased until the 12th inning when Rivera's infield single RBI drove Scott Lawson in to give Washington a one run lead. Eric Stephens added insurance when he smacked a bases-clearing double to give Washington a four run lead.

Windy City's starting pitcher, Dustin Williams broke the Frontier League record for strike outs (157) in his seven innings of work. Five additional pitchers took the mound for the ThunderBolts.

The Wild Things' Justin Hall (10-7) had hoped to pitch a complete game, but left the game after the 11th inning. Hall allowed two runs on seven hits, and struck out a career high 14 batters. Taylor Wulf pitched an inning in relief.

Game Two Results will follow upon completion of game two.
