Florence, Kentucky: A Sunday evening crowd of 1,545 hoped to see their Florence Freedom clinch a series victory against the Rockford Riverhawks, the Freedom did just that in dramatic fashion, winning 7-6.
Rockford got the scoring started in the second, when Gooby Gerlits doubled in two runs, and Todd Dulaney singled in a run. The Freedom struck back in their half of the second, on a two run jack by Scott Martin, his ninth on the season. The three run second inning was good enough to chase Freedom starter Curt Moenter, Manager Jamie Keefe passed the ball onto Mike Causey. In the bottom of the third, Florence took the lead on a three run inning, consisting of Darrin Kinsolving two run single, and a Josh Sanchez run on a wild pitch. After three, the Freedom lead 5-3. Rockford scored a run in the fifth to setup Gooby Gerlit's eighth inning tying homerun, his 10th of the season. After eight, the score was tied up at five. That all changed in the top of the ninth, when Jeremy Busch hit the go ahead homerun, his second of the season. Ted Rowe managed to hold the Riverhawks to just one run. In the ninth, Scott Pickens lead off with a base hit, then Wally Quigg bunted down the first baseline, and Nick Johnson threw the ball away at first, and it was runners on second and third with nobody out. After Rockford intenionaly walked Mike Galloway, Trevor Hall came through with the big hit, scoring Pickens and Quigg, to win the game, 7-6.
