August 8, 2005 - Frontier League (FL)
Richmond Roosters News Release

Richmond, Indiana - Matt Schweitzer, a 6-1, 190-pound lefthander, is the all-time winningest pitcher in the Frontier League. Schweitzer pitches for the Richmond (Ind.) Roosters.

The Olivet Nazarene University (Bourbonnais, Ill.) graduate won his record setting 27th ballgame - a league career- record - with an 8-7 victory over the Washington (Penna.) Wild Things, Tuesday, July 26th.

Schweitzer, a resident of Johnsburg, Ill., went 7 2/3 innings and struck out six for the win. He gave up 11 hits and five earned runs to surpass former Richmond Roosters' Phil Kojack and the Gateway Grizzlies Pete Buck with career win 27. He has since added two more wins to make the current record 29.

Both Kojack and Buck won 26 career games during their stint in the Frontier League.

Schweitzer said of the accomplishment: "To be among them (Kojack and Buck) and surpass them is just unreal."

Schweitzer also holds the Frontier League strikeout record, currently at 411 K's. The Roosters are the winningest franchise in the Frontier League and won back-to-back championships in 2001 and 2002. They continue their march to the 2005 playoffs with a home series against the Ohio Valley Redcoats at Don McBride Stadium, commencing Tuesday, August 9th at 6:35 p.m. (CST).
