Rockford RiverHawks News Release
FLORENCE, KY - The Rockford RiverHawks ended their season-high five-game losing streak and avoided a winless road trip with a 6-1 win in Florence Monday.
Before Derek Roper even took the mound for Rockford, he was staked to a 4-0 lead. In the top of the first inning, the âHawks batted around and recorded six hits off Freedom starter and former Major Leaguer Corey Thurman (0-1).
Nick Johnson and Kevin Ciarrachi each hit RBI doubles in the frame, and Brian Baron and Gooby Gerlits chipped in with run-scoring singles.
Roper (6-4) made just one mistake in seven innings pitched. One of the six hits he allowed was a solo home run by first baseman Trevor Hall to lead off the bottom of the fourth. Roper struck out four and walked just one.
Rockford added two unearned runs in the fourth thanks to an error by Hall. He dropped a foul pop off the bat of Olmo Rosario, extending the at-bat, which resulted in a two-out single. Baron then doubled home Rosario and scored on another double by Johnson.
Four Rockford starters had at least two hits with Baron leading the way, finishing 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Aaron McEachran started for the first time since July 31, after not starting the last six games because of a pulled neck muscle.
Rockford returns to Marinelli Field at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday to begin a three-game homestand against Kalamazoo. The series opener is a Dr. Pepper/7UP "2 For Tuesday," when fans buy two hot dogs for $2 or two soft drinks for $2.
The 'Hawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
