Evansville right-hander Andre Simpson pitched eight innings, striking out 16 in Evansville's 6-2 win over the Gateway Grizzlies Monday night at GMC Stadium.
The Grizzlies managed just two runs on seven hits. The only two runs came on a Shawn Smarsh two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning. Smarsh was 1-4. Phil Warren was 2-4.
Nick Szcsur (4-4) took the loss for the Grizzlies He allowed five runs on nine hits. He struck out seven.
The Grizzlies head on the road to Columbia, MO to begin a three-game series against the Mid-Missouri Mavericks. Game time Tuesday is 7:05 p.m.
