
Rascals Break Out Of Slump at Roosters Expense

O'Fallon, Missouri -The Roosters lost 12-3 to River City on Sunday night, dropping the middle game of the series. The Rascals took control early getting at least one run per inning from the third to the eighth.
The Rascals scored first when Jon Williams led of the third inning with a blast over the wall in right-center. Another run scored on a hit by Kirk McConnell to give River City a 2-0 lead. The Roosters tied it up in the fourth on a RBI single by Joe Rhomberg and a sacrifice fly by Nate Gravley, but the Rascals put three more on the board in their half of the fourth to retake the lead. Jake Manning hit a three-run homer to left field, scoring Mike Madrid and Nick Saunders to make it 5-2.
River City got one run in the fifth, two in the sixth, two in the seventh and two in the eighth to blow the game wide open. Mike Conner had a RBI single, Kirk McConnell hit a two-run double, Nick Saunders and Jake Manning each had RBI doubles, and Mike Madrid had a run-scoring single. The Roosters were able to get a run in the seventh on a RBI single by O.J. Garza but the Rascals took a 12-3 lead through the ninth inning to get the win. Tony Marsala (4-2) pitched 6 1/3 innings to get the win for River City while Keith Laughlin (0-1) took his first loss as a Rooster.
The Roosters and Rascals will battle for the rubber match on Monday to finish the series. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (Indiana time). Mike Cervera (1-0, 4.34 ERA) will oppose Aaron Ledbetter (10-2, 2.35 ERA). Richmond will return home on Tuesday to begin a three-game series against the Ohio Valley Redcoats.
