Evansville Otters News Release

Florence, KY - Roughly 14 hours after a 1-0 game concluded Monday night, the Florence Freedom found their bats and slugged their way to a 14-3 win over the Evansville Otters Tuesday afternoon at Champion Window Field.

The Freedom got going early, plating four runs in the first inning, the last two on a Tim Grogan home run. Grogan went yard again in the sixth inning, a three-run shot to left field that pushed the advantage to 13-1. Grogan finished 2-for-4 with 6 RBI. Johnny Welch contributed two home runs himself, a solo homer in the third inning and a two-run bomb in the fifth.

Dustin Koca got the Otters on the board in the third inning with an RBI single. Tyler Diamond finished off the scoring with his second home run of the year, a two-run job in the ninth inning.

Otter's starter Jordan Tiegs (0-2) lasted only three innings, giving up five earned runs on six hits. Reliever Kyle Dahman took over and ran into trouble in the sixth inning, giving up six runs.

Freedom starter Preston Vancil earned the win in his first professional outing, allowing only one unearned run in seven innings.

The Otters (16-37) have lost five straight and will try to salvage the three game series Wednesday at 6:05pm CDT.
