Beach Bums Beat Rain and RiverHawks

Traverse City Beach Bums News Release


TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Traverse City Beach Bums won a 5-0 game over the Rockford RiverHawks at Wuerfel Park on Tuesday night in a contest that was shortened to seven innings due to rain.

Traverse City plated runs in their first four innings at bat. Brad Miller led off the game with a triple to right-center and scored when Brandon McArthur grounded out to second. Another run crossed in the second as Mike Victor led off with a double and Brian Lapin followed with a double of his own to make it 2-0.

Mike Epping hit his third homer of the season in the third inning, a two-run shot that scored Brandon McArthur who had doubled with one out in the inning and gave Traverse City a 4-0 edge. Rockford's starter Matt Enderle did not come out for the fourth inning. He allowed four runs on five hits. The Beach Bums

The Beach Bums made it 5-0 with a run in the bottom of the fourth against Rockford reliever Mike Rogers, who was making his first appearance since being activated from injured reserve. Andrew Barbaro started the rally with two outs by singling. Andrew Stafford followed with an opposite field single to right that put Barbaro at third. Stafford broke for second and Barbaro crossed the plate on a delayed steal when Rockford catcher Robert Sabates threw to second.

David Dinelli threw five shutout innings to notch the win, his first with the Beach Bums. Dinelli allowed just three hits and walked two while striking out five. Mike Epping and Andrew Stafford had two hits apiece for the Beach Bums who finished with 10 hits in the game.

The Beach Bums will conclude the homestand tomorrow night with a 7:05 pm game against the RiverHawks. RHP David Nathanson (2-7, 4.28) gets the call for Traverse City while RHP Jay Monti (5-4, 4.42).
