Offensive Explosion Help Grizzlies Over Sliders

The Gateway Grizzlies belted out 15 runs on 13 hits on way to beat the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti Monday night at GCS Ballpark. The game was close until a huge Grizzly fourth inning put the game out of reach, as they won 15-3.

Robbie Knapp hit a solo homer to give the Sliders their only lead of the night at 1-0 in the second inning.

Gateway answered by scoring four runs in the next two innings to go up 4-1.

Midwest cut it to a two-run game when Jimmy Baker hit a double and scored on a Gil Zayas single in the fourth.

A six run inning gave Gateway a dominate 10-2 lead. Joe Agreste led the attack in the fourth inning with a two-run double.

They tacked on five more runs while the Sliders only scored one more on a Baker solo homer.

Jeff Fischer suffered his first loss of the season pitching 3 2/3 innings allowing five earned runs.

Tuesday's game will be the second game of the three game series with Gateway. First pitch is at 8:05 p.m. EST. Kyle Wink (0-0, 1.29) will make is second start for Midwest, and he will take on Nate Melek (4-4, 4.39).
