Frater Nets A Hat Trick Against His Former Club As United Earns 3 Points

May 18, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
New Mexico United News Release

(COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado) New Mexico United defeated Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, 1:3, on Saturday evening. Kevaughn Frater registered his second hat trick of the 2019 campaign against his former club and helped his side gain sole possession of first place in the USL Championship Western Conference table.

Frater's first came in the 18th minute when a fortuitous ball found him in the center of the box, and he coolly slotted his chance past Switchbacks' Goalkeeper, Andre Rawls. 18 minutes later, Frater again found himself in the right place, at the right time. Captain Josh Suggs put a dart on target. Rawls did well to stop it, but the rebound bounced directly to Frater, and for the second time, he finished clinically.

Mike Seth would net the lone goal for the hosts. In the 63rd minute he scored after a fracas in the box. Colorado Springs' intensity in the ensuing ten minutes tested United Goalkeeper Cody Mizell, but he held strong, and his tenacity would soon be rewarded. In the 75th minute, Ken Akamatsu threaded a beauty of a ball Frater's way, and after a nifty bit of footwork, the Jamaican completed his hat trick.

Frater will miss the next match against Austin Bold FC. He collected his 5th yellow card of the season, in the 88th minute.
