EL PASO, Texas - El Paso Locomotive FC defeated Sacramento Republic FC 3-1 in their first-ever meeting behind a second-half brace from Jerome Kiesewetter after Drew Skundrich had equalized for the visitors.

El Paso's Calvin Rezende pounced on an early opportunity to put Locomotive FC ahead in the 10th minute. Omar Salgado got behind Republic FC's defense as he ran onto a long ball from Mechack Jerome. Salgado held up play inside the box before sliding a pass to the right foot of Rezende. The midfielder one-timed a low shot that rolled through traffic and past a diving attempt from Republic FC keeper Rafael Diaz.

Sacramento responded and found an equalizer after Jaime Villarreal lofted a chipped lob into the box for Cameron Iwasa who was able to beat an offside trap. Iwasa brilliantly sent his header across the face of the goal and right into the path of Skundrich at the far post who blasted the ball past El Paso keeper Logan Ketterer to level the score in the 35th minute. The goal was Skundrich's first this season, while Iwasa recorded his second assist of the year on the play.

Stefano Bonomo and Iwasa both almost put the visitors ahead just before the halftime whistle. After receiving a solid through pass from Charalampos "Haris" Chantzopoulos, Bonomo had a blistering shot parried away by Ketterer in the 41st minute. Just before the halftime whistle, Iwasa got his head to a cross from Elliott Hord on the wing that bounced and hit the post before being cleared away.

In the second half, Kiesewetter, who came into the match with four goals in his last two appearances, continued his good form as he recorded his third consecutive brace for Locomotive FC. Former Republic FC defender James Kiffe whipped in a corner kick that found Chiro N'Toko as the defender carved out space in the middle of the box. N'Toko put his one-timed shot on frame, but Kiesewetter stepped in front of the shot to poke it home for the go-ahead goal. Kiesewetter added his second goal 10 minutes later when he got on the end of a cross from Edson Partida. Kiesewetter beat Diaz with a mid-air, right-footed flick to all but put the game out of reach.

The boys in Old Glory Red head back home and have a bye week to regroup before their next match, a midweek clash on May 29 at home against Fresno FC in the Third Round of the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
