Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Former Detroit Red Wings forward Darren McCarty will make an appearance at Wuerfel Park as part of Strike Out ALS Night on Tuesday, August 14, highlighting an action packed nine-game homestand.

McCarty, a member of the Red Wings Stanley Cup championship teams in 1997, 1998, 2002 and 2008 will sign pregame autographs on the concourse at Wuerfel Park as the Beach Bums look to help Strike Out ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Traverse City will wear special jerseys during the game that will be auctioned off during the contest against the Joliet Slammers with the proceeds going to ALS research. The event also takes place on a Two-for-Tuesday where you get 2-for-1 pricing on all chairback seats.

The McCarty appearance is just one item in a huge homestand, however. The nine-game, 10-day stretch begins with a FANtastic Fireworks Friday on August 10 against the West Division contending Schaumburg Boomers. Saturday, August 11 is Sons and Daughters Night presented by Century Link at Wuerfel Park where fans can have a catch with their son or daughter from 6:15-6:30 on the field. Just bring your gloves and the Beach Bums will provide the baseballs for the event. Kids (ages 5-12) tickets are half price on Saturday with the purchase of an adult chairback seat.

The Schumburg series wraps up on Sunday with a Family FUNday Sunday with a Beach Bums team action poster giveaway sponsored by Progress Printers. Kids tickets are half price with the purchase of an adult chairback seat, kids ages 5-12 can run the bases after the game and the entire team will be available for a postgame autograph session.

After an off day Monday, Joliet invades Wuerfel Park for a three game series. Following Strike Out ALS Night on Tuesday, Wednesday, August 15 is Scout Night and a Weenie Wednesday where the Beach Bums will have their first ever Dollar Dog Day at the ballpark. Hot dogs will cost just ONE DOLLAR while Hawg Dogs and brats are $1 off. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts who come in uniform Wednesday night will receive half off the price of their chairback seat. The Joliet series concludes on Thursday with a 2-for-1 Thirsty Thursday where Traverse City will offer 2-for-1 pricing on all chairback seats and $1 off fountain drinks and beer.

The homestand will wrap up August 17-19 as River City makes their only appearance at Wuerfel Park this season. Friday, August 17 is a FANtastic Fireworks Friday. On Saturday, bring your sunglasses, wear your beach attire and be transported to a tropical place on Beach Bash Night. The first 500 fans through the gates will receive a Hawaiian lei courtesy of the Traverse City Beach Bums. The River City series will conclude with a Family FUNday Sunday presented by Great Start/Way to Grow.
