Wild Things Top 'Belters in Game Two

August 8, 2012 - Frontier League (FL)
Normal CornBelters News Release

Normal, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, lost their seventh straight game, after falling to the Washington Wild Things 3-0 Wednesday night at the Corn Crib. Normal's starting pitcher, Jacob Liedka (2-8), took the loss and Washington's Chris Smith (8-4) got the win for his second complete game over the CornBelters.

It was Washington who scored first for the second night in a row. Michael Bando hit a leadoff home run in the third inning to give the Wild Things a 1-0 lead.

The offense would be slow for most of the game. However, the Wild Things added some padding to their score in the top of the ninth inning, as two unearned runs came home on a CornBelters' error, leaving the score at a 3-0 advantage for Washington.

The 'Belters proved to be unable to respond to the runs during their turn to bat in the ninth inning, allowing for Washington's shutout.

The series wraps up tomorrow at the Corn Crib at 6:30pm. Normal will put left-handed pitcher Tyler Stovall (1-8, 5.80 ERA) on the mound to start the game, while Washington will use right-hander Casey Barnes (4-5, 3.58 ERA). Pregame begins on WJBC.com at 6:20pm.
