Gateway Grizzlies News Release

SAUGET, Ill. - Lake Erie belted three home runs and collected 14 hits while cruising to a 9-4 win against the Gateway Grizzlies Wednesday night at GCS Ballpark.

After Gateway (43-31) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Chris McClendon RBI single, the Crushers (42-32) erupted for nine runs from the fourth through eighth inning to pick up the series win. It was the Grizzlies first series loss since July 3-5. The Grizzlies had won nine straight series.

Five different players had multi-hit games for the Crushers, who touched up Grizzlies starter Chris Enourato (3-4) for five runs on eight hits in five-plus innings. Enourato walked three batters and struck out two in the loss.

The Grizzlies rallied in the sixth inning to come within two runs before Lake Erie responded for three unanswered to finish off the victory. Rogelio Noris and Jon Myers hit back-to-back home runs for the Grizzlies in the sixth inning.

For the second straight night, Gateway only had five hits. Noris led the Grizzlies with a 2-for-4 night.

The loss moved the Grizzlies into second place in the Frontier League West Division, a half game back of Windy City.

The Grizzlies will try to avoid the series sweep on Thursday night at GCS Ballpark. Right-hander Paul Tremlin (5-2) makes the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05.

Playoff tickets are now on sale through the Grizzlies Ticket Office. To get tickets, call 618.337.3000 or go online to gatewaygrizzlies.com.
