Spokane Indians News Release
Spokane, WA - Rosters for the second annual Northwest League vs. Pioneer League All-Star Game were released today and four Spokane players were selected to the NWL team. Pitcher Tyler Ferguson, outfielder Chad Smith, catcher Seth Spivey, and third baseman Xavier Turner were all tabbed as All-Stars for their performances in the season's first half by NWL media and coaches.
"This is a tremendous honor and a great opportunity to compete against some of the top players at this level," said Spivey. "We look forward to representing Spokane and the NWL in Ogden."
Spivey - who was named a NWL Mid-Season All-Star in 2014 as a second baseman - leads the league with 30 RBI while spending time at catcher, first base, and centerfield. Smith, the youngest hitter in the league at just 18-years-old, is tied for seventh in the league with 20 RBI while former Vanderbilt star Turner has excelled on both sides of the ball with a .337 batting average and stellar defense at the hot corner. Despite pitching out of the bullpen, the hard-throwing Ferguson ranks fourth in the NWL with 41 strikeouts to go along with a 2.05 ERA.
The game will take place at Linquist Field in Ogden, Utah - home of the Ogden Raptors - on Tuesday, August 2. First pitch is scheduled for 6:15 PM PST with a Home Run Derby before the game at 4:15 PM PST. Fans can follow along with the game on TuneIn Radio by searching "Ogden Raptors".
"Ogden is proud to host the game and looks forward to showing our friends from the Northwest League the best Lindquist Field and Ogden have to offer," said Ogden Raptors president, Dave Baggott. "It will be a big project for us but we will be excited and ready for the game."
Spokane hosted the inaugural Northwest League vs. Pioneer League All-Star Game at Avista Stadium last year in front of a sellout crowd of 7,083 fans. Indians shortstop Yeyson Yrizzari scored the game-winning run as the NWL topped the Pioneer League 6-5 in extra-innings.
