
Five AquaSox Named NWL All-Stars

EVERETT, Wash. -Eric Filia, Brandon Miller, Donnie Walton, Ljay Newsome and Kyle Lewis were named to the Northwest League All-Star Team, the league announced on Tuesday, July 26. Eric Filia was selected as a probable starter for the NWL in its second-ever match-up with the Pioneer League All-Stars.
The second-ever Pioneer League-Northwest League All-Star Game will be hosted for the first time by the Pioneer League on August 2nd at Lindquist Field in Ogden, UT. The festivities will begin with Fan Fest, scheduled to start at 3:30pm MST. A Home Run Derby is scheduled to follow at 5:00pm MST. Then the game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. MST.
"We are very excited to have five Everett AquaSox players named to the All-Star team," Everett AquaSox General Manager Danny Tetzlaff said. "Having this many players named to the team is a true testament to our outstanding coaching staff, and the Mariner's Organization."
Eric Filia is an outfielder selected by the Mariners in the 20th round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of UCLA. He is third in the league in batting, with a mark of .322, and is also second in the league with 26 RBIs in 2016. Filia is 5th in the league in slugging percentage (.478) and on-base percentage (.409).
Brandon Miller made the team as a pitcher for the NWL All-Stars. He was selected in the 6th round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Mariners out of Millersville University. Miller is second in the league in WHIP, holding a 1.01.
Ljay Newsome is a pitcher selected by the Mariners in the 26th round of the 2015 MLB Draft out of Mechanicsville, MD. Newsome was recently honored as the NWL Pitcher of the Week for the period of June 20-26. The right-hander boasts a WHIP of 1.13, while holding an ERA of 3.60.
Donnie Walton has been selected as an infielder for the NWL All-Stars. Walton was selected by the Mariners in the 5th round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of Oklahoma State University. In only 14 games, Walton has shined holding a .370 batting average, and a .485 on-base percentage. He also has provided thump to the order, hitting 3 home runs.
Kyle Lewis was also named to the NWL All-Star team. Lewis is an outfielder who was selected by the Mariners in the 1st round of the 2016 MLB Draft. Kyle will not participate in the game, as he was injured earlier this season following a collision at home plate. Before the injury, Lewis was leading the league in hits, total bases, slugging percentage, extra base hits and triples.
