
Four-Run First Lifts Jacksonville over Memphis

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Continuing their hot hitting from Wednesday, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp blasted three home runs in a 5-1 win over the Memphis Redbirds Thursday night at AutoZone Park.
Jacksonville (40-35) took an early lead with four runs in the top of the first. Bryson Brigman led off with a single and Peyton Burdick walked to start off the inning. With two runners on, Jerar Encarnacion (6) blasted a three-run home run to put the Jumbo Shrimp ahead 3-0. Lewin Díaz (14) followed with a solo home run, pushing the lead to 4-0.
Memphis (42-33) answered with a run in the bottom of the third. Cory Spangenberg (8) led off the inning with a solo home run off Jacksonville starter Matthew Kent (W, 4-5)
After being held scoreless since the first, the Jumbo Shrimp plated their final run in the ninth. With one out, JJ Bleday (17) smacked a solo home run, putting Jacksonville ahead 5-1.
The Jumbo Shrimp got a great effort from their pitchers, only needing two. Kent tied a season-high with seven innings, allowing one run on three hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Robert Garcia (S, 7) got the final six outs and retired all six batters to lock down the win and his seventh save of the season.
Jacksonville returns home Monday, July 4 to open a series with the Norfolk Tides. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. on Monday for an awesome Independence Day celebration at 121 Financial Ballpark. The Jumbo Shrimp will be giving away a 4th of July hat, presented by Nimnicht Family of Dealerships to the first 2,000 fans through the gates. The Jumbo Shrimp will be wearing their Patriotic Jerseys which are currently up for auction. The night will wrap up for an amazing Independence Day fireworks show, presented by Nimnicht Family of Dealerships!
Jacksonville continues their series with the Memphis Redbirds Thursday with first pitch set for 8:05 ET/7:05 CT. The Jumbo Shrimp will turn to RHP Bryan Hoeing (5-3, 4.30) and Memphis will counter with LHP Connor Thomas (4-2, 3.98)
