LAST TIME OUT

MOOSIC, PA (June 29, 2022) - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders defeated the Buffalo Bisons 5-3 on Wednesday evening. Estevan Florial went 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored and his International League-leading 24thand 25thstolen bases of the season.

The Bisons struck first with a run-scoring double from Jordan Groshans against RailRiders' starter Ken Waldichuk in the game's opening frame. Buffalo logged three doubles in the inning but scored only once. Waldichuk settled in after that and allowed just the one run over 4.1 innings of work with seven strikeouts. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre jumped in front in the third with a pair of two-out tallies. After Florial drew a walk and swiped his 24thbag of the campaign, Oswald Peraza drove him in on an RBI double. Peraza finished the night 2-for-3 and extended his season-high hitting streak to 11 games. Miguel Andújar then brought another home with a single to left to give SWB a 2-1 advantage. The RailRiders extended their lead to 4-1 with two more runs in the fifth after another two-out rally for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. With Florial and Peraza already on base, Andújar logged his second RBI of the night with a knock to right and a second run came home on a throwing error. Andújar went 3-for-4 Wednesday and is now 5-for-8 with 5 RBI this series.

Buffalo cut into the lead in the seventh as Eric Stamets' third home run of the season made the score 4-2 RailRiders. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre got the run right back in the bottom of the frame via Florial's 111 MPH rocket home run and his second big fly in as many nights. The Bisons got one run back in the ninth on a fielder's choice ground out, but couldn't muster anything else in the 5-3 final. Braden Bristo (2-2) earned his second win of the season out of the RailRiders' bullpen. Shane Greene (1) picked up the first save of his Minor League career. Bowden Francis (5-6) was saddled with the loss for Buffalo.

NEWS & NOTES

FIRST THINGS FIRST - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders welcome in the Buffalo Bisons, Triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, for the first time this season. The RailRiders played their only series in Buffalo, NY in late April with the Bisons taking four-of-six games.

OVER THE HEDGE - The RailRiders find themselves with a 14-12 record in the month of June which guarantees that they will have their first winning month of the season. During June, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre had been .500 four times at 7-7, 9-9, 11-11 and 12-12. They had won nine games in both April and May.

BABY STEPS - Entering Thursday, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre is ten games under .500 for the first time since May 26 when the team was 17-27. They are also 9.5 games back of first place, which is the first time they've been single-digits games back since they were 9.5 games back on May 12. The last time SWB was nine games under this season was May 15 (13-22).

GOT HEEM - RailRiders catching has been throwing runners out at a much higher pace over the past two weeks as opposed to the rest of the season. Over the last seven games, the combo of Rob Brantly and Max McDowell have thrown out four-of-six (66.6%) would-be base stealers (Brantly 1 SB - 1 CS, McDowell 1 SB - 3 CS). On the flipside, David Freitas has allowed five stolen bases since the start of last week's series in Toledo. Even still all together, the RailRiders in their last eight games have caught four of eleven stolen base attempts (36.3%). RailRiders catchers had only caught 11 of 103 (10.7%) prior to this eight-game stretch.

SWIPER YES SWIPING - Estevan Florial has stolen 25 bases this season, which leads the International League. Twenty-five stolen bases is a single-season career-high for him. Florial is currently on pace to steal 50 bases this season which would set a franchise record, besting Tommy Barrett's 44 stolen bags in 1989 (inaugural season).

TO YOU, ANDÚ, ANDÚ - Including his time with the Yankees, Miguel Andújar has tallied a hit in 15 of 20 games played in the month of June. Since June 8, Andújar has rasied his SWB batting average from .282 to .317. During the month, he's slashing .358/.411/.567. His batting average and on-base percentage lead all qualified RailRiders in the month, while his slugging is second to just Armando Alvarez (.585). In the first two games of this series, Andújar is 5-for-8 with a homer, double and five RBI.

DOWN WITH O.D.P., YA YOU KNOW ME - Oswald Peraza finds himself on an eleven-game hitting streak and a twelve-game on-base streak. The eleven-gamer is a season-best, surpassing a six-game streak he set from April 28 to May 5 and also matches a career-best which lasted from August 9 to August 21, 2019 while with the Charleston River Dogs (16-for-44, .364). During this stretch, he is 20-for-44 (.455) with four homers and three doubles. The last time Peraza did not tally a hit in a game was on June 10 against Syracuse.

GIVE IT TO GREG - Greg Weissert leads the team with seven saves in eight opportunities. Seven saves is the most he's tallied in a single season of his career. He has been asked to gather four outs in three of those saves including in the Tuesday opener this week against the Bisons. Weissert's only blown save this year came on June 8 on the road against the Syracuse Mets.

STREAKY - José Peraza is on a five-game hitting streak... Armando Alvarez is on a four-game hitting streak... Greg Weissert has made seven-straight scoreless outings... Shane Greene has made three-straight scoreless outings...

ON DECK - Friday is First Responder Friday and Friday Night Fireworks, presented by NEPA Crane & Hauling, 98.5 KRZ and Shur Save. 100 tickets will be given away to our first responders each Friday on a first-come, first-serve basis.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION - The New York Yankees (56-20) defeated the Oakland A's 5-3 to complete a series sweep. All the offense came off Giancarlo Stanton's three-run homer and Aaron Judge's two-run homer. The Yankees are making up an April 4 game in Houston with Luis Severino facing Luis Garcia at 6:10 PM... The Somerset Patriots (44-27) dropped a 4-2 contest to the Reading Fightin Phils yesterday. Elijah Dunham hit his ninth homer of the year. Randy Vasquez gets the ball tonight at 7:00 PM... The Hudson Valley Renegades (36-35) rallied for three in the bottom of the seventh, erasing an early deficit to defeat the Brooklyn Cyclones 8-5. They trailed 3-0 and were tied at five at points in the game. Beck Way will start tonight at 7:05 PM... The Tampa Tarpons (31-40) defeated the Bradenton Marauders 4-1. Jasson Dominguez homered for his eighth of the year. The two meet again tonight at 6:30 PM...
