ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Indians jumped out to a 4-0 lead for the second consecutive night but could not keep the Sounds at bay, dropping the second game of the six-game set by a score of 8-5 last night. After Jared Oliva robbed Pablo Reyes of a home run to center field in the first inning, an RBI single by Taylor Davis began the scoring and back-to-back run-scoring groundouts put Indy up, 3-0, in the second. The lead was then extended on Rodolfo Castro's seventh home run of the season to lead off the third inning. Leadoff walks in the fourth and seventh innings led to a pair of four-run frames for Nashville. Two runs scored without an out being recorded in the bottom of the fourth, and a two-out, two-run homer off the bat of Reyes tied the game at 4-4. In the eighth, three RBI singles broke the tie and gave Nashville an 8-4 lead. The Indians scored their final run on an RBI double by Taylor Davis, who led the team with two RBI.

CAL CAN HIT: Cal Mitchell, in his return to the Indians' lineup after spending the last month in the big leagues, went 3-for-4 to tie his season high in hits (also: 4/16 at St. Paul, 4/20 vs. Columbus) last night. He has hit safely in his last seven Triple-A games dating back to 5/19 (1) and has hit .409 (9-for-22) in that time. In 35 games with Indianapolis this season, Mitchell has hit .320 (41-for-128) with a .508 slugging percentage and .881 OPS. The corner outfielder made his major league debut on 5/24 and hit safely in his first four big-league games. In 26 games with Pittsburgh, he hit .193 (16-for-83) with five doubles and two home runs.

RODOLFO ON A ROLL: Rodolfo Castro extended his hitting streak to four games last night with a solo home run in the third inning. In those four games, he has gone 4-for-16 with two homers and five RBI since 6/25 vs. Memphis. The longball was Castro's third solo homer, with his other four home runs this season coming with runners on base (one two-run homer, two three-run homers, one grand slam). He has hit safely in eight of nine of his last games.

DAVIS DOES IT: Taylor Davis, acting as the Indians starting third baseman yesterday, went 3-for-4 with a ground-rule double and two RBI for his first three-hit game since 9/18/21 vs. St. Paul. It was also his second multi-RBI game of this season, following 4/26/22 at Iowa. Since 5/26, when Davis moved out of a catching role with Indy, he has hit .316 (12-for-38) in 11 games. He has started only two of his last 11 games at catcher, with five starts coming at third base, three at designated hitter and one at first base.

HIGHWAY ROBBERY: Jared Oliva robbed former Pirates farmhand Pablo Reyes of a home run to center field in the first inning last night, giving the Indians a chance to get on the board first at Nashville. The Indians' outfielder is currently working a 41-game errorless streak dating back to 4/16, which is tied for the seventh-longest active streak in the International League. It is the longest such streak among his teammates this season and is 13 games shy of his 2021 54-game errorless streak from 6/23-10/3. The longest errorless streak by an Indians fielder came when Danny Ortiz did not commit an error for the entirety of the 2016 season (94 games played).

CLEANING THE FIELD: After an errorless showing last night, the Indians now are working a season-high four-game team errorless streak since 6/25 vs. Memphis. Last season, the team's longest errorless streak was five games from 6/10-15. It's the third-longest active streak in the International League, following Memphis (7 games) and Toledo (6).

NO JOKE: After surrendering three earned runs in his season debut on 6/14 at Gwinnett, Joe Jacques has surrendered just three hits over 3.0 scoreless innings in his last trio of outings. He recorded a season-high five outs last night and was not charged with a run to close out the loss to Nashville. When the southpaw is locked in, he's one of the Indians best relievers. In two months of 2021 (June and August), he registered sub-1.00 ERAs with just one earned run allowed in each month. In June, he went 1-0 with an 0.82 ERA (1er/11.0ip) and he went 1-0 with a 0.73 ERA (1er/12.2ip) in August.

TONIGHT: The Indians will look to retake a series lead vs. Nashville tonight in an 8:05 PM ET first pitch at First Horizon Park. Last year, they split the season series, 5-5, with an even record in six games in Nashville and four in Indy. For the Indians, Jerad Eickhoff will take the mound for his fourth career start against the Sounds and his first since 2015 with Triple-A Round Rock. In those outings, he went 2-1 with a 7.80 ERA (13er/15.0ip). Countering for Nashville is Dylan File, who has never faced Indianapolis.

THIS DATE IN 1990: The Indians prevailed at Iowa in 14 innings, 5-4, behind an 18-hit attack. Indianapolis sent the game to extras by scoring one in the ninth to make it 3-3, and both teams traded single runs in the 12th to extend the game further. Indy left 19 runners on base to Iowa's eight in the triumph. Center fielder Steve Hecht finished 3-for-8 with a double, RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base atop Indy's lineup.
