
RailRiders Win Over Buffalo

MOOSIC, PA -The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders defeated the Buffalo Bisons for the third consecutive night with an 8-1 victory on Thursday evening. Armando Alvarez went 3-for-3 with a walk, stolen base, two doubles and his eighth home run of the season.
The Bisons took the game's first lead on a Chavez Young RBI single against RailRiders' starter Clarke Schmidt in the second inning. Schmidt allowed that one run over 2.2 innings of work with three strikeouts in his second appearance with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season. SWB tied the game at one in the bottom of the frame via Derek Dietrich's run-scoring groundout.
The RailRiders then jumped ahead with three runs in the third. Alvarez broke the tie with his fifth home run of the month. Later in the frame, SWB struck with two outs. Jake Bauers hit his first big fly with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with a runner on first and two down to make it 4-1. The RailRiders have scored 10 of their 18 runs this series with two outs.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre extended the lead to 6-1 with two more tallies in the fifth. After Alvarez led off the frame with a walk and stole his fourth base of the season, Estevan Florial brought him home on a run-scoring double. Florial then swiped his International League-leading 26th bag of the year and was driven in on Miguel Andújar's sacrifice fly to left. Andújar is 6-for-12 with 6 RBI this series.
The RailRiders added two insurance runs in the ninth on an RBI single from David Freitas and Florial's sacrifice fly. Florial is 8-for-24 with 5 RBI over the last seven days. Vinny Nittoli, Michael Gomez and José Mujica combined to pitch 6.1 scoreless innings with six strikeouts out of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's bullpen in the 8-1 final. The RailRiders have now won 14 of their last 20 games.
Nittoli (3-1) earned his third win of the season out of the RailRiders' bullpen. Trevor Richards (0-1) was saddled with the loss for Buffalo in the first appearance of his rehab assignment.
