
Tides Lose First Game of Series against Gwinnett Thursday

Norfolk, Va - The Norfolk Tides (36-39) lost to the Gwinnett Stripers (36-39), 10-5, Thursday. The Tides were unable to reach base until sixth inning, snapping their two-game winning streak.
The first two runs of the game for Gwinnett came in the second inning. With a runner on, Ryan Casteel blasted a two-run homer to take the lead. The would score four runs in the sixth inning, when Casteel struck again with a two-run double. Ryan Goins followed by trading places with Casteel on an RBI double himself. Goins scored when Eddie Rosario knocked him in on a single, giving Gwinnett the 6-0 lead.
Huascar Ynoa was dominant retiring the first 17 hitters he faced. The perfect game was broken up with two outs in the sixth inning when Greg Cullen hit a double. Gwinnett would extend their lead with two more runs in the seventh inning, taking the 8-0 lead.
Norfolk didn't go quietly, scoring five runs in the bottom-half of the seventh inning. Ynoa walked in a run with two outs in the seventh, bringing in reliever Brandyn Sittinger. The first batter he faced was Dylan Harris, who blasted a grand slam. That brought the Tides within three runs, down 8-5.
Gwinnett topped the game off with back-to-back homers by Pat Valaika and Alex Dickerson in the ninth inning, giving the Stripers a 10-5 win. Tomorrow, LHP DL Hall (1-3, 5.17) will be the starting pitcher for the Tides and will face off against Gwinnett starter LHP Kyle Muller (4-4, 2.96). First pitch at 7:05 p.m.
POSTGAME NOTES
JUNE RECAP: The Tides end the month of June with a 13-13 record, their second calendar month with at least a .500 record (April, 12-11)...the 13 wins are the most in a calendar month since August, 2019 (17-11)...Tides hitters had their month season-high of .257 average (223-for-867) with 30 home runs and 162 runs scored, which was the highest average since August, 2019 (.279)...as for pitching, they've recorded a 5.76 ERA (139 ER, 217.1 IP), the highest since July, 2021 (5.88).
WOAH! WE'RE HALFWAY THERE: After today, the Tides are officially halfway through their season...the 36-39 record through 75 games is the fifth best record in 15 seasons as an Orioles affiliate, and the best since 2018 (40-35).
HARRIS SLAM: The grand slam by Dylan Harris in the seventh inning was the first grand slam at Harbor Park by a Tide since DJ Stewart did so on May 8, 2019 vs. Pawtucket...it's fourth grand slam of the season for the Tides, with the most recent coming from Robert Neustrom on May 18 at Charlotte.
BASES-LOADED WALKS: The bases-loaded walk by Cadyn Genier was the 20th of the season for the Tides, which is tied for the league lead...it was Grenier's fourth bases-loaded walk of the season, which leads the Tides (passing Shed Long's three) and ranks second in the International League.
