Tacoma Rainiers News Release

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers dropped the team's series opener with the Albuquerque Isotopes 8-6 in a game that featured six home runs

Four of those home runs were hit by Albuquerque, beginning with designated hitter Tim Wheeler's first inning grand slam that gave the Isotopes an early 4-0 advantage.

Christhian Adames hit a solo homer in the top of the third inning to put Albuquerque up 5-0 before Tacoma countered with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Jabari Blash (1x3) hit a solo home run and Stefen Romero (2x4) blasted a two-run dinger to pull Tacoma within a pair of runs.

Wheeler hit his second home run of the night in the sixth inning to extend the Isotopes lead to 6-3, and the second half of the shortstop Adames' two-homer night stretched Albuquerque's advantage to 7-3 in the seventh.

Third baseman Joey Wong scored Albuquerque's final run after smacking a two-out single in the ninth and then scoring on a double hit by outfielder Brandon Barnes.

An RBI single from Romero in the eighth inning - his third of the night - and a two-run rally in the bottom of the ninth could not overcome the Isotopes lead.

Reliever Forrest Snow tossed a season-high 5.0 innings in relief for Tacoma, fanning two and allowing three runs on four hits. Gaviglio surrendered five runs on four hits over 4.0 innings in a losing effort. Prior to his outing on Tuesday, the right-hander had allowed just one run over his first two starts this season.

Tacoma sends left-hander Mike Kickham (0-1, 6.75) to the mound to face Isotopes right-hander Chad Bettis (1-1, 5.23) when the four-game series continues tomorrow, April 22. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
