Reno Aces News Release

RENO - Game one of the 2015 Silver State Challenge between the Reno Aces (@Aces) and the Las Vegas 51s went to the Aces (7-6) on Tuesday night in downtown Reno. The Aces hit three home runs and got seven innings from starter Justin Marks to propel them to an 8-3 win, their third consecutive victory.

Marks' performance came on the heels of Vidal Nuño's 6 2/3 innings Sunday afternoon and Robbie Ray's (@RobbieRay) 10-strikeout game in Monday's 6-2 win.

Las Vegas (6-7) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second when Alex Castellanos and Travis Taijeron hit back-to-back home runs to open the inning.

Marks found a groove shortly after, shutting down the 51s' lineup until Dilson Herrera's two-out, RBI single in the seventh.

After a quick first inning for Reno, they jumped on starter Darin Gorski in the second. Right-fielder Peter O'Brien led off the bottom of the second with a first-pitch home run to right-center. The long ball for O'Brien is number five of the year, tied for the most in Minor League Baseball.

Two batters later, Kevin Frandsen (@KevinFrandsen) singled in his first Aces at-bat, then Matt Pagnozzi (@MattPagnozzi) hit a two-run home run to right-field to give Reno a 3-2 lead. It was the start of a big night for Pagnozzi who added an RBI double in the third, and a single in the seventh.

Trayvon Robinson added a single after Pagnozzi's two-run blast, and later came around to score on Garrett Weber's (@_weber5) run-scoring single to make it 4-2.

The Aces added a solo tally in the third on Pagnozzi's double, then added three in the fourth inning to break the game open.

Marks started the fourth with a base hit and was able to jog home easily when shortstop Danny Worth followed with a two-run homer off the right-field foul pole. Peter O'Brien (3-for-4) and Frandsen (3-for-5) added hits in the inning.

Tim Crabbe finished the night on the mound for the Aces. He worked a scoreless eighth and retired the side in order in the ninth to lock down the 8-3 win.

The Aces and 51s will play an afternoon game on Wednesday in game two of the four-game series. Right-hander Blake Beavan will make his Aces debut against right-hander Tyler Pill (0-0, 12.86). First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
