Aces Extend Winning Streak to Four Games

April 22, 2015 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release

RENO - The Reno Aces (@Aces) waited out a 59-minute rain delay Wednesday afternoon at Aces Ballpark and wound up with a 6-3 win over the Las Vegas 51s (6-8), extending their season-long winning streak to four games.

Peter O'Brien, who came into the game with a six-game hitting streak, blasted his Pacific Coast League-leading sixth homer of the season in the first inning to give the Aces (8-6) an early 1-0 lead.

Las Vegas drew even when Darrell Cecilani doubled in a run in the top of the third.

Rain and hail halted the game with two outs in the top of the fourth inning with Aces' right-hander Blake Beavan on the mound. It came just moments after 51s catcher Johnny Monell started the fourth with a solo home run to right-center to give Las Vegas a 2-1 lead.

When play resumed, right-hander Caleb Clay (@CalebClay) took over for Beavan and promptly struck out Travis Taijeron to end the top of the fourth.

Nick Evans and Zach Borenstein opened the home half of the fourth with back-to-back doubles to tie the game at 2-2. The scoring didn't stop there as Danny Worth knocked in a run with a single, and Mike Freeman's (@MikeBFree5) run-scoring base hit made it 4-2.

The 51s trimmed the deficit to 4-3 with a single tally in the sixth on Monell's RBI groundout. That's as close as they'd get against the bullpen combination of J.C. Ramirez, Dan Runzler and Jake Barrett (@BJBace99) in the final three innings.

A bases loaded walk issued to Nick Evans, and a sacrifice fly from Blake Lalli (@BlakeLalli) gave the Aces a pair of insurance runs in the seventh.

Ramirez worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning, Runzler tossed a scoreless eighth, and Barrett retired the side in order in the ninth to earn his third save of the year. Clay picked up the win, running his record to 2-0 on the season.

Game three of the series is set for Thursday night. Right-hander A.J. Schugel (0-1, 21.00) starts for the Aces against right-hander Rafael Montero (0-0, 3.38) for the 51s. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
