April 22, 2015 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA, Neb. - Behind six scoreless innings from Joe Blanton in his first ever start at Werner Park, the Omaha Storm Chasers (8-4) took the series opener from the Memphis Redbirds (4-8) holding off a late rally in a 4-2 victory. Omaha has now won three of the four meetings between the two clubs this season.
Blanton notched his second win against Memphis in the last six days as he allowed only four hits while striking out six over six shutout innings. It was the first scoreless start for the right-hander since he was with the Los Angeles Dodgers on September 29, 2012 against the Colorado Rockies. The six innings were the longest scoreless outing for a Storm Chasers starter this season. After Michael Mariot gave up two runs in the ninth, Joe Paterson came on and recorded two outs with the bases loaded to notch the first Omaha save in 2015.
The Storm Chasers literally did all their damage in a four-run fourth inning, racking up all five of their hits and all four of their runs in the frame. Reymond Fuentes singled home Whit Merrifield, who has scored in six straight games, while Casey Kotchman recorded his first hit and RBI since the 2013 season with a two-run double. The Storm Chasers offense went 1-2-3 in all seven of the other innings beside the fourth on the night.
In the second game of the series with the Redbirds, Storm Chasers RHP Christian Binford (0-1, 4.50 ERA) will square off with Memphis LHP Tim Cooney (1-1, 4.38 ERA). First pitch on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and MiLB.TV is scheduled for 11:05 a.m.
