Four Homeruns Power Captains

Lake County Captains News Release


(Eastlake, OH) -The Lake County Captains powered their way past the Fort Wayne Tincaps on Tuesday afternoon as they used four homeruns to grab the 8-5 win. Yu-Cheng Chang led the charge offensively with a grand slam in the third inning. Justus Sheffield earned his fourth win of the season and JP Feyereisen earned his Midwest League leading ninth save.

The Tincaps took an early lead for the second consecutive games. With one out in the top of the first inning Michael Gettys reached on a ground rule double when the ball got stuck under the centerfield fence. Nick Torres would follow with a walk. Duanel Jones would then double home Gettys for a 1-0 lead. Torres would also score on an RBI groundout by Franmil Reyes for a 2-0 Tincaps lead.

The Captains would grab the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Bobby Ison singled to start the inning. With one out, David Armendariz would bang into a fielder's choice that erased Ison for two outs. Greg Allen would then single and Claudio Bautista walked to load the bases. Chang would then send a 1-1 pitch over the leftfield fence for the Captains first grand slam of the season. The Captains would end the inning with a 4-2 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth inning with two outs, Greg Allen would connect on his third homerun of the season and a 5-3 Captains lead.

Francisco Mejia would lead off the bottom of the seventh inning. After striking out in his two previous at bats, Mejia lined his third homerun of the season over the fence in centerfield for a 6-3 Captains lead.

After the Tincaps got two runs back in the top of the eighth inning, Dorssys Paulino connected on the Captains fourth homerun of the game. For Paulino, the two run homerun was his fourth of the season. The Captains now lead the Midwest League with twenty seven homeruns.

Sheffield (4-1) earned the win after going the first five innings. He allowed three runs, all earned, on five hits. Sheffield walked one and struck out six. David Speer earned a hold with two innings of relief. He did not allow a run or a hit and struck out two. Luke Eubank also earned a hold with one inning of relief. He allowed two runs on one hit and a walk. Feyereisen (9) earned the save with one inning of relief. He walked one and struck out two.

The Captains improve to 21-18 on the season and stay within two games of first place Bowling Green.

The Captains and Tincaps will continue their series on Wednesday night with a 6:30 first pitch. Thomas Pannone will get the start for Lake County.
