Thompson, Zeile Lead 'Caps Shutout

BOWLING GREEN, KY - The West Michigan Whitecaps used the battery of Jeff Thompson and Shane Zeile to power themselves to a 3-0 shutout win over the Bowling Green Hot Rods Monday night at Bowling Green Ballpark.

Thompson (1-4) pitched 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out five. Thompson, who pitched collegiately at the University of Louisville, had family and friends in attendance to see his first win since the 2013 season. Zeile delivered two of the 'Caps three runs with an RBI-single in the fourth, and a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Hot Rods starter Greg Harris (2-3) got the loss after allowing two runs in over five innings. Johan Belisario pitched a scoreless ninth to record his fifth save of the season. The Whitecaps record improves to 19-19, while Bowling Green falls to 22-16. West Michigan has won nine of their last 12 games to even their record at .500.

HONORS FOR A.J.

Whitecaps pitcher A.J. Ladwig received the Midwest League's Pitcher of the Week Award after throwing eight dominant innings in a win over Bowling Green last Thursday. Ladwig; who allowed just four hits and walk while striking out 10, became the first player to win the award since Jon Maciel won it last August.
