Hershey Bears News Release

The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club split four games last week to stay atop the East Division standings. After wins in Norfolk and at home against Houston, the BEARS dropped games to Albany and Wilkes- Barre/Scranton to conclude the week. With 28 wins in 40 games to begin the season, HERSHEY still possesses the best record in the American Hockey League.

The BEARS will host the Albany River Rats Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. before an East Division showdown in Bridgeport Friday night against the Sound Tigers. Tickets for all BEARS home games are on sale now at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 534- 3911.

Six All-Star representatives: The BEARS will be the most represented AHL team in Worcester later this month, with six members of this year's team heading to the DCU Center. In addition to head coach Bob Woods and assistant coach Mark French, four players will also make their way to Worcester on January 25-26. Left wing Alexandre Giroux and defenseman Bryan Helmer will skate for the Canadian AHL All- Stars, while left wing Chris Bourque and center Keith Aucoin will play for the Planet USA AHL All-Stars.

Rats one more time: Albany will return to GIANT Center Wednesday to play the BEARS at 7:00 p.m. The game marks the final time in 2008-09 that HERSHEY and Albany will meet, completing a six-game season series.

Giroux gets it done: Alexandre Giroux enters play Wednesday with an active 11-game goal streak. With time in between with the Washington Capitals, Giroux has scored a goal in every game he has played in for HERSHEY dating back to November 26.

Bourque helping out: With an assist Sunday in Wilkes-Barre against the Penguins, left wing Chris Bourque has registered assists in nine consecutive games. Bourque is tied with Milwaukee's Mike Santorelli for the longest assist streak in the American Hockey League this season.

Washington update: The Capitals welcome the Edmonton Oilers to Verizon Center this Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. Washington will then head to Pittsburgh to face the Penguins Wednesday night at Mellon Arena. An Eastern Conference showdown looms Saturday when the Boston Bruins come to D.C. at 7:00 p.m. Saturday's game with the Bruins is sold out.
