Hamilton Hosts Grand Rapids And Lake Erie; Travels To Syracuse This Week

The Hamilton Bulldogs (American Hockey League affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens) will be competing four times this week. The 'Dogs will kick off the week with two hometown tilts at Copps Coliseum, the first against the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings) on Wednesday January 14th at 7:30 p.m. which is the 'Dogs 1000th AHL regular season game. The Lake Erie Monsters (AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche) return to Copps Coliseum on Friday January 16th at 7:30 p.m. Hamilton will then travel to Syracuse to take on the Crunch (AHL Affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets) in two match-ups taking place on Saturday January 17th at 7:30 p.m. and Monday January 19th at 2:00 p.m. at the Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter.

Last week, Hamilton went 3-1-0-0 bringing their record to 23-8-5-3. The 'Dogs started the week with two hometown games earning a 4-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phantoms on Tuesday January 6th, and a 3-0 shutout win against the Lake Erie Monsters on Friday January 9th. Hamilton travelled to Cleveland on Saturday January 10th and were victorious for the third straight time with a 4-3 win over the Monsters at Quicken Loans Arena. Wrapping up on Sunday January 11th the Bulldogs dropped their only game of the week, a close defeat of 6-5 to the Rochester Americans at Blue Cross Arena.

BULLDOGS CELEBRATE 1000th GAME

On Wednesday, January 14th, 2009, the match-up between the Hamilton Bulldogs and the Grand Rapids Griffins marks the 1000th game in Bulldogs franchise history. Join us on the 14th as we raise the banner commemorating the history behind this remarkable hockey club.

The Bulldogs organization will celebrate their 1000th game on Friday, January 16th, 2009, when they host the Lake Erie Monsters. The Bulldogs players will be wearing 1000th game commemorative uniforms designed to honour the 1000th game. The uniforms will support a black and silver color theme with a special '1000th Game' commemorative patch sewn on to the jerseys. Fans will have the opportunity to bid on jerseys starting on the 14th and continuing on the 16th through a silent auction. The auction will be held at the Bulldogs Foundation booth located at section 114 of the concourse. A variety of memorabilia and prizes will also be handed out throughout the evening. One lucky fan will even have the chance to win Bulldogs season tickets for life!

- On January 5th Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced that the club acquired defenceman T.J. Kemp from the Pittsburgh Penguins and was reassigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs

- Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Julien BriseBois announced on January 5th that the club signed left wing Steve Gainey to a Professional Tryout (P.T.O.) contract

- The American Hockey League announced January 7th that Hamilton Bulldogs defenceman Yannick Weber has been named as a starter for the 2009 PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team

- January 9th Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Julien BriseBois announced that the club released goaltender Mike Minard from his Professional Tryout (P.T.O.) contract

There are currently 45 former Bulldogs in the NHL at this time. Over 60 percent of the players on Hamilton's all-time roster have played in a minimum of one NHL game. Three former Bulldogs head or assistant coaches (Doug Jarvis, Claude Julien, and Geoff Ward) are currently in a coaching capacity in the NHL. Here are a few highlights and accomplishments of ex-'Dogs from this past week:

- Montreal LW Andrei Kostitsyn earned six points last week with an assist in a 6-3 victory over the Rangers (Jan. 7), a goal and two assist in a 6-2 win against Toronto (Jan. 8), and a goal and an assist in a 5-4 victory over Washington (Jan. 10)

- Montreal LW Max Pacioretty picked up three points last week with an assist in the 6-3 win over the Rangers (Jan. 7), a goal in another 6-2 win over Toronto (Jan. 8), and an assist in a 5-4 victory against Washington (Jan. 10)

- Boston RW Michael Ryder scored four points this past week with a goal and an assist in a 6-4 win over Ottawa

(Jan. 8), and two goals in a 5-1 victory against Carolina (Jan. 10)

- Montreal C Maxim Lapierre recorded two points this week with a goal and an assist in a 6-2 victory over Toronto (Jan. 8)

Cable 14 will also carry Rogers Television's live coverage of five Hamilton Bulldogs versus Toronto Marlies games at Ricoh Coliseum.

BULLDOUGS FOUNDATION:

Ben Maxwell was named as the Community Player of the Month for December. Ben has been actively involved in the community and spent his free time making a difference in the lives of children. On December 9th, he took part in the Bulldogs annual visit to McMaster Children's Hospital, signing autographs and singing Christmas carols. He also visited schools throughout the city, awarding prizes to students who successfully completed one of the various Bulldogs Educational Programs. His dedication to hockey, along with his enthusiasm to give back to the community symbolizes a passion to strive above and beyond all expectations.
