Moose Notes

40 DOWN, 40 TO GO: The Manitoba Moose have played 40 of their 80 regular season games, putting them at the half-way point of the season. With 54 points and a 26-12-0-2 record, Manitoba posted their second-best first half in 12 IHL and AHL seasons. The Moose posted a 16-4-0-0 (.800) record in the first quarter of the season - the best-ever start for the club in their last seven AHL seasons. Last season the Moose reached the half-way point with 21-16-2-1 for 45 points. Manitoba's most successful first-40 was in 2004-05 when they went 27-10-1-2 (0.713) for 57 points.

SWEEPING A THREE-IN-THREE: After registering wins on Jan. 9 at Iowa (6-1 W), Jan. 10 at Iowa (2-1SOW), and Jan. 11 at Peoria (4-3 W) the Moose swept their first 'three-in-three' this season. This is the fifth and only road trip that the Moose have swept so far in this campaign. The last time the Moose have won three-games-in-three-nights was from Mar. 7-9/08 when the club registered wins over Hamilton (2-0W), Toronto (3-0W), and Hamilton again (3-1W). The Moose have another three back-to-back-to-back stints scheduled in 2008-09 (Feb. 13-15/09, Feb. 20-22/09, & Mar. 13-15/09). Manitoba's first three-games-in-three-nights stretch was Oct. 19-21/07, when the club earned four of six points with wins over Rochester and Hamilton sandwiching a loss to Toronto.

CAN'T STOP, WON'T STOP: After earning a goal in Sunday night's 4-3 victory over the Peoria Rivermen, Jason Krog extended his points streak to nine consecutive games. Krog, who has been named to the Canadian All-Star team for the AHL All-Star Classic is currently leading the team in assists and points totalling 38 (10g & 28a). This streak is the longest for Krog so far this season, yet he registered a point in every game this season from Oct. 10th - Oct. 21st before being recalled to the Vancouver Canucks. Upon his return from the NHL club, he extended that streak even further to seven games. Jason Jaffray is tied with Krog for the longest point streak so far this season with nine games (Oct. 24 - Nov. 11/08).

Upcoming Opponents

The Manitoba Moose host the Milwaukee Admirals on Tuesday and Wednesday for the first two clashes between both clubs this season. The Moose and Admirals are currently tied for first place in the Western Conference with 54 points, making Tuesday's winner the sole owner of top spot. Last season, the Moose won three of their four matchups against the Admirals, dropping their only game on home ice. Manitoba's all-time record sits at 16-12-1-3 (8-7-1-0 @ Milwaukee) vs. the Admirals. On Friday night, the Moose play the Grand Rapids Griffins, who are currently tied with Manitoba for top spot in the North.

Player of the Week Nominee

Michael Grabner

For the first time this season, Moose winger Michael Grabner has been nominated for AHL Player of the Week. Grabner appeared in only three of the five games the team played this week as he returned from a concussion after missing the past nine games. In those three games, Grabner recorded his first-ever professional hat trick to pace the Moose in their 6-1 victory over Iowa and then he scored two more in Sunday's 4-3 win over Peoria. Grabner now leads the Moose once again with 15 goals and is currently fourth on the team in scoring with 22 points. After finishing the week +5, Grabner is now tied for the team lead in +/- at +11. He also fired a staggering 14 shots on net in only three games, as he leads the team in that category as well with 120 shots.
