Houston Aeros News Release

The Houston Aeros touch down in Houston today for the first time since leaving town on New Year's Eve for their eight-game, 12-day trip. After the trip ended with a 4-1 win over the Chicago Wolves Sunday Houston (18-17-1-7) is in a tie with Peoria for fourth place in the West Division and only two points behind second-place Rockford. The Aeros have two games on tap this week against North Division opponents on Friday and Sunday.

Friday's 7:35 p.m. game against the Toronto Marlies is the second and final meeting between the teams this season. The Marlies won the first contest 5-4 in late October by scoring five goals in the first two periods, including two power-play markers. Danny Irmen tallied a short-handed goal in the contest, one of three for the Aeros this season. The Aeros are currently on a five-game winless streak against Toronto at Toyota Center with an overall record of 1-5-1-0 against the Marlies. The only win came in Houston on January 10, 2006.

Sunday's contest features a team that the Aeros have a much better record against, the Lake Erie Monsters. Houston holds a 5-1-0-0 record against the Monsters, who are in their second season. Houston went 4-0 against the club last season and the teams split the first two contests, each winning on the road. Houston has recorded three goals in 11 power-play chances against the Monsters and have killed off all nine short-handed situations so far this season.

WEEK IN REVIEW

Houston finished this last week with three points in four games (1-2-0-1) leaving the team in a tie for fourth place. Jesse Schultz netted the game-winning goal and added two assists Sunday in the Aeros' first win after a six-game slump (0-4-0-2), the longest slide since 2006-07. His second-period marker broke a 1-1 tie that propelled the Aeros towards their 4-1 victory in Chicago. Schultz posted Houston's lone goal, a power-play marker, Friday in Hershey as the Bears exacted revenge with a 5-1 win over the Aeros. Schultz's efforts helped move the Aeros into a tie for fourth in the West Division and move three points ahead of Chicago.

The Houston Aeros scored three power play goals in the final 2:53 of regulation to force overtime against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Wednesday night in the Arena at Harbor Yard, but Houston ultimately fell 4-3 in a shootout. Marco Rosa tallied a goal and assist in the final three minutes for Houston and Kuris McLean scored twice for Bridgeport to lead their respective teams.

Five different players scored in the Hershey Bears 5-1 victory over the Aeros Friday night at Giant Center. The loss extended the Aeros' winless streak to five games (0-3-0-2) at that point in the eight-game road trip. Jesse Schultz scored the Aeros' lone goal on Bears' goaltender Simeon Varlamov who stopped 23 of 24 shots for his sixth straight win.

The Houston Aeros were defeated 3-1 by the Quad City Flames Saturday night at i wireless Center extending the Aeros' winless streak to six games (0-4-0-2). Warren Peters scored late in the third period to break a 1-1 tie and lift the Flames to victory. Goaltender Nolan Schaefer stopped 25 of 27 shots in the loss and Matt Beaudoin scored the only goal for Houston.

The Houston Aeros ended their six-game winless streak Sunday night in a convincing 4-1 win over the Chicago Wolves at Allstate Arena. Jesse Schultz and Corey Locke each tallied their 100th professional goal in the win and Peter Olvecky tallied three assists as the Aeros ended their longest road trip of the season, an eight-game trip.
