Bridgeport Islanders News Release
ALBANY, N.Y. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers lost to the Albany Devils Friday night by a final score of 2-1. Alan Quine score a power-play goal in the first period, but that was the only one of the Sound Tigers' 28 shots that beat Devils netminder Keith Kincaid. Anders Nilsson returned to the Sound Tigers and stopped 20 shots in the contest.
Albany got on the board first with Reid Boucher's 11th of the season. Boucher took a pass from Kelly Zajac and took the puck into the left circle. He fired a wrist shot which slipped past Nilsson and gave the Devils a 1-0 lead at 13:37 of the first.
The Sound Tigers earned a power play less than a minute later and converted on their first man advantage opportunity of the game. Quine took a shot from the high slot which was stopped, but the rebound kicked out front. The puck hopped over Persson's stick, but not Quine's, who followed his shot and scored his fifth goal of the season to tie the score at one.
Neither team scored in the second period, as both teams clogged up the neutral zone and blocked shots in their own end. The Sound Tigers outshot the Devils 8-4 in the middle period, but it remained a 1-1 game headed into the third.
Tim Sestito broke the tie midway through the third for what was the eventual game-winning goal. Harri Pesonen had the puck on the right wing while Sestito broke into the zone fresh off the bench. As Sestito cut towards the net down the left wing, Pesonen found him with a backdoor pass as Sestito tipped it past Nilsson for the goal.
The Sound Tigers pulled Nilsson in favor of the extra attacker with less than two minutes to play and got their best chance with 30 seconds left on a scramble in front, but no one was able to hammer the puck home.
The Sound Tigers return to action Saturday night against the Springfield Falcons when they host the Northeast Division leaders at 7 p.m.
