Springfield Falcons News Release

Worcester, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons (28-11-1-4) were defeated by the Worcester Sharks by the final score of 5-2 Friday night at the DCU Center, extending the team's season-long winless streak to four games.

Worcester's top line of Yanni Gourde, Travis Oleksuk and Dan DaSilva did the majority of the damage Friday night, accounting for four of the team's five goals and eight of the team's 14 points. DaSilva and Oleksuk each found the back of the net twice, while Gourde chipped in with three assists and a +2 rating. DaSilva finished the night with three points (two goals, one assist) and a team-high +4 rating.

Sean Collins and Lukas Sedlak lit the lamp for Springfield. Collins put home his own rebound at the 14:20 mark of the first period, getting the Falcons on the board and cutting the Worcester lead to 2-1. For Collins, the goal was his eighth of the season and second in as many games.

Sedlak fired a wrist shot from the slot off of an Alex Aleardi feed that beat Worcester netminder Troy Grosenick at 7:56 of the second period. Sedlak's seventh tally of the season brought the Falcons to within one score, 3-2.

Despite only two shots in the final frame, the Sharks outshot the Falcons, 40-21, in Friday's contest.

Neither team scored on a power play. The Falcons were 0-for-3 with the man advantage, while the Sharks were 0-for-1.

Springfield goaltender Mike McKenna made 35 saves on 40 shots, losing his second consecutive start for the first time this season. The St. Louis native is 10-5-0 in 16 appearances between the posts for the Falcons this season.

Grosenick stopped 19 of 21 shots in net for Worcester, improving to 9-5-0 this season.

Friday's loss marks the team's fourth straight defeat, a season high. The Falcons still maintain the AHL's best points percentage at .693.
