Packed House Sees Late Rally Fall Short
January 31, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Adirondack Phantoms News Release
On their special Pack The House Night promotion, the Adirondack Phantoms' fans jammed the Glens Falls Civic Center for their third sellout crowd of the season and 12th all-time. The visiting Hershey Bears were able to withstand a late Adirondack rally for a 5-3 decision in front of 4,929 fans.
The game drew the sixth-largest crowd in Glens Falls in Phantoms' history. The front-office aggressively pushed Adirondack's last home game before the league's All Star Break with ticket discounts beginning with some $5 tickets a couple of weeks ago. The fans gobbled up the great offer and jammed the building for another big Hockey Night in Glens Falls. Seating capacity of the Glens Falls Civic Center is 4,794. After that point, standing-room tickets are made available and the team has officially reached a sellout status.
Adirondack also had sellouts this season on Opening Night on October 12 drawing 5,031 fans and also on Dax's Big Birthday Bash just a couple weeks ago on January 18 when 4,800 arrived.
Trailing 4-1 in the third period, the Phantoms stepped up their game with a number of impressive pushes into the Bears' zone. Mark Alt pulled the Phantoms to 4-2 with his high-slot wrister with about 12 minutes remaining. And Bruno Gervais scored a 5-on-3 goal with over five minutes remaining to make it a one-goal game. But Adirondack was unable to score on the ensuing 5-on-4 and eventually Hershey scored a late empty-netter to finish the victory.
Julian Brouillette scored a pair of goals to lead the Hershey Bears attack. Phantoms goals were scored by Rob Bordson (9th), Mark Alt (2nd) and Bruno Gervais (7th).
The two teams tangle again in Philadelphia with a quick turnaround. Following the overnight bus-ride, it will be the Phantoms and the Bears at Wells Fargo Center beginning at 1:00 PM. Adirondack's next home date in Glens Falls is a couple weeks away. The Phantoms return on Friday, February 14 for a Valentine's Day encounter with the Portland Pirates.
