Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Binghamton stumbled on the road losing 5-1 to the Manchester Monarchs in the final matchup of the two-game season series. Jean-Francois Berube stonewalled the B-Sens chances all night allowing just one goal on 28 shots faced to earn the victory. Nathan Lawson dropped to 15-6-0 for the season after allowing all five Monarchs goals before being relieved by Andrew Hammond at the 10:01 mark of the final period.
The Monarchs outshot the Sens 14-5 in the opening period and managed to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Brian O'Neill put the hosts on the board 3:24 into the period with a wrist shot over Lawson's right shoulder. Tanner Pearson increased Manchester lead to two with his 15th goal of the year. Pearson snagged the puck after a long rebound from a Binghamton shot and carried it the length of the ice before beating Lawson at the 15:21 mark. Just as Binghamton started its first power-play chance of the night Manchester made it 3-0. Linden Vey intercepted a clearing attempt from Lawson and sent home his eighth goal of the year with less than three minutes remaining.
Manchester continued to control the puck through the middle frame as they added two goals while holding Binghamton in check. Defenseman Chris Huxley hurled a puck towards the crease beating a screened Lawson for his first goal of the year at 9:26 of the period. Less than 30 seconds later, the Monarchs made it 5-0 when A.J. Gale rocketed home his eighth tally of the season ending Lawson's night in net for Binghamton. Andrew Hammond stopped the lone shot faced in just under 10 minutes of relief to keep the deficit frozen at five heading to the final period.
David Dziurzynski salvaged a goal at 17:09 of the final period allowing Binghamton to avoid the shutout.
Binghamton killed off all eight of the Monarchs power-play attempts but failed to convert on their own three attempts. Hammond turned aside all six shots faced in just under 30 minutes of relief.
Binghamton finishes its four-game road trip tomorrow in Portland in a 7:00p.m. contest against the Pirates. The B-Sens will be back on home ice Wednesday, February 5, when they host Portland at 7:05p.m. Tickets for Wednesday's game are available by calling the Binghamton Senators Executive Office at (607) 722-7367 or stopping in between 9:00a.m. and 5:30p.m. Fans can also purchase tickets through the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets during normal business hours by visiting www.ticketmaster.com or at 1-800-745-3000.
