Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that forward John Scrymgeor ["SCRIM jor"] has been selected as a replacement player for the ECHL All-Star Classic presented by CCM, which is to be held January 26, 2011, in Bakersfield, California. The Royals today also announced the following transactions previously undertaken and completed by the team: (i) forward Chris Blight was loaned to the Worcester Sharks of the AHL on Sunday, January 23, and returned to Reading on Monday, January 24; (ii) forward Ben Gordon has been loaned to the Rochester Americans of the AHL; and (iii) forward Rob Slaney has been assigned by the Maple Leafs from the Marlies to the Royals.
Scrymgeour, a first year pro from Pickering, Ontario, was selected to replace Kael Mouillieart of the Idaho Steelheads, who is injured. The Royals original selection for the ECHL All-Star Classic, goaltender Ben Scrivens, is recalled to the Toronto Marlies of the AHL. Scrymgeour has scored four goals, assisted on eight others (twelve points), picked up fifteen penalty minutes and played to a plus-5 (+5) in thirty-one games for the Royals this year. Scrymgeour, who played college hockey at Lake Superior State University, registered his first multi-goal performance as a pro last Saturday, when he scored a pair of goals in Reading's 5-4 come-from-behind win over the Florida Everblades. Scrymgeour's first two goals this season proved to be game winners for the Royals. Blight picked up two assists and played to a plus-2 (+2) in Sunday's 5-4 shootout loss for the Sharks to the Portland Pirates. That was his third call-up to the AHL this season. Blight, a sixth year pro who hails from Cambridge, Ontario, has registered twenty-one points (5g-16a) in seventeen games with Reading. This marks the first call-up of the year for Gordon, who leads the Royals with forty-two points (19g-23a) in thirty-nine games. A third year pro from International Falls, Minnesota, Gordon has played sixteen AHL games in his career. Slaney was recalled from the Royals to the Marlies on December 29, 2010. He picked up two penalty minutes in eight games with Toronto. A second year pro who hails from Upper Island Cove, Newfoundland, Slaney has twelve points (4g-8a) and twelve penalty minutes in thirty games with Reading this season.
The Royals return to action on Friday (January 28, 2011 @ 7:05 pm) when they'll face the Greenville Road Warriors for the first time this season at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. That night the Royals will host Educator Appreciation Night courtesy of Bellco Federal Credit Union with the first 3000 fans receiving a Royals whipe-board. The Royals game day broadcast will kick off with the pre-game warm-up show presented by The Works at Wyomissing on the Royals Broadcast Network (WRAW 1340 am in Reading, www.1340wraw.com) at 6:35 pm.
